A Pole Tent Wedding in Moniaive, Dumfries

Our team recently installed a stunning 12m x 24m sailcloth pole tent for a wedding in Moniaive, Dumfries. Set within beautiful private grounds, the tent created a unique outdoor wedding venue surrounded by the rolling Scottish countryside.

Why the Couple Chose a Pole Tent Wedding

The couple wanted a relaxed outdoor wedding that felt connected to the surrounding landscape while still providing a practical and comfortable space for guests.

A sailcloth pole tent was the perfect solution, offering:

  • A bright and airy interior

  • Elegant high peaks

  • Open sides and countryside views

  • A unique alternative to a traditional wedding venue

The Wedding Setup - A Bright, Open Wedding Space

For this wedding we installed:

  • 12m x 24m Sailcloth Pole Tent

  • Due to the uneven ground, we installed our pine hard flooring rather than coir matting. This created a safer, more stable surface for guests and helped reduce potential trip hazards.

  • The tent was fitted internally with our draped festoon lights and uplighter mood lighting throughout. Outside the tent was our ridge lighting along the spine on top of the tent and walkway lighting to guide guests around the gardens.

  • The ceremony was held outside nearby on our wooden benches with the dining area set with rustic tables and oak cross-back chairs.

Creating a Wedding Venue on Private Land

One of the biggest advantages of a sailcloth tent is the ability to transform a blank outdoor space into a beautiful wedding venue.

Whether you're planning a wedding on a family farm, private estate, large garden or countryside property, a pole tent allows you to create a completely bespoke celebration space.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many guests can a 12m x 24m sailcloth tent accommodate?

A 12m x 24m sailcloth tent can typically accommodate around 90 to 150 guests, depending on the layout. Bars, dance floors, round tables, lounge areas and catering requirements can all reduce the overall seated capacity, while long-table layouts can often allow for higher guest numbers.

Can a pole tent be installed on grass?

Yes, a pole tent can be installed on grass. We regularly install sailcloth tents on a wide range of ground surfaces, from private lawns and fields to more complex sites. We’ll assess the ground conditions, access and staking requirements to make sure the structure can be installed safely.

How much space is needed for a sailcloth tent?

For a quick rule of thumb you need at least 2-3m around the whole tent for stakes and guy lines to secure the tent. For example a 12m x 24m sailcloth tent will need a 16m x 30m space.

Can you have a wedding on private land in Scotland?

Yes, you can host a wedding on private land in Scotland, such as a family garden, farm, estate or countryside property. A sailcloth tent is ideal for creating a temporary wedding venue, but you’ll need to consider access, parking, toilets, power, catering, lighting and ground conditions. We can help advise on the practical setup requirements for your site.

What happens if it rains?

Summer weddings in Scotland can be beautiful, but it’s always sensible to have a rain plan in place. We can help plan flexible cover options in the week leading up to the wedding, depending on the forecast. This could include covered ceremony space, additional sheltered areas, or a clear-roof structure to keep guests comfortable if the weather changes.
